What
is EvaXephon?
The
best description is the one written on the site's
front page - "EvaXephon is a website dedicated to
making a comprehensive gallery of every similarity
between Neon Genesis Evangelion and RahXephon."
So,
do you think that RahXephon ripped off NGE, or
something?
I'll avoid using the term 'ripped off', because it's
harsh term, and I because I respect both shows. I do,
however, have a strong belief that RahXephon
intentionally imitates Evangelion. Many of
RahXephon's characters seem like copies of Evangelion's
characters, much of
RahXephon's dialogue echoes speech from
Evangelion, and RahXephon recreates many sequences
from Evangelion almost scene-for-scene. Evidence
for these claims is found in the image galleries.
It
sounds like you really hate RahXephon. Is your
goal to make it look bad?
Not
at all! I thoroughly enjoy both Evangelion and
RahXephon. However, as I've said, I believe that
RahXephon intentionally copies Evangelion,
and I've always wanted to compile a library of the
similarities between them - so
that's what I've done.
It
still seems like you're trying to label RahXephon
a rip-off and make it look bad.
I'm
sorry if that's how it seems. I may see RahXephon
as an
Evangelion clone, but I still enjoy it a lot. I
thought it'd be a fun little project to compare
the similarities - that's all.
It
looks like you've got an enormous bias. Which show
do think is better?
Which
show is 'better' depends entirely on your personal
tastes. Some people will enjoy NGE more, and some
people will enjoy RahXephon more. That's all there
is to it.
I
first saw Evangelion when I was 14, and became a
huge fan of the show. I had more than a few
similarities myself with Shinji, which made me
feel a deep
personal connection to the anime.
Evangelion will always be more special to me than
any other anime. I do in fact believe that
RahXephon did some things better than
Evangelion did. However, after watching all of
Evangelion and RahXephon, back-to-back, I
personally enjoyed Evangelion more.
This
Article
from AnimeNation's
Ask
John Archive runs
parallel to my thoughts
about both shows. Overexposure has dulled my
enthusiasm for Evangelion, but I still like and
respect the show very much. Evangelion offers
amazing action choreography and a stunning level
of intellectual depth and philosophical
pontification. RahXephon isn't nearly as
intellectual or theoretical, but is instead much
more mysterious, subtle, and artistic than
Evangelion. Evangelion is a show with an agenda, a
point to make, while RahXephon is much more a show
intended only to be engaging, stimulating, and
entertaining. In that respect, RahXephon is less
'challenging' to watch, and therefore easier to
enjoy and like than Evangelion. Both
are exceptional productions and each are enjoyable
in their own rights. The difference between them
is that one is highly classical and literary while
the other is more contemporary and easily
accessible.
Just
who are you, anyway?
My
name is Alex, I'm 18 years old, and I live in
California. On the Internet, my username is
EvaXephon.
